Stewardship Ontario to help industry with new Ontario blue box funding obligations

TORONTO, January 9, 2004 – Stewardship Ontario, the province’s new Blue Box waste “Industry Funding Organization” will host two January 21st industry workshops (and live simulcasts) to give Ontario industry and interested parties the opportunity to understand how to comply with new 2004 Ontario waste diversion funding responsibilities, and preview upcoming consultations on the Blue Box Program Plan.
Both workshops will take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Novotel Toronto Centre, 45 The Esplanade, Toronto, and will be broadcast simultaneously on the internet through the Stewardship Ontario website - www.stewardshipontario.ca. Participants on-line will be able to ask questions via e-mail, and presentation slides will be made available to web participants on the morning of the workshop/simulcast.
• Workshop 1: “Understanding Your Company’s New Ontario Blue Box Funding Obligations” will take place from 10:30am to 12:00pm, and demonstrate how to register with Stewardship Ontario.
• Workshop 2: “New Measures or Enhancements to the Blue Box Program Plan” will take place from 1:30 to 3:00pm, and will preview upcoming consultation on new measures and enhancements to Blue Box Program Plan asked for by the Ontario Minister of the Environment.
Those attending the workshops at the hotel will also have an opportunity to visit a “Compliance Consultants Showcase” (mini-trade show) featuring local, national and international consulting firms that are available to help companies identify, collect and report their designated Blue Box waste materials data.
Registration for the workshops/simulcasts is free, but pre-registration is mandatory. Participants should pre-register at www.stewardshipontario.ca. For those who cannot attend the workshops or participate on line, the simulcast will be archived for listening on the site for 180 days.
